Covid Redundancies: consultations with foreign staff
We
are in the midst of a global pandemic and the UK unemployment rate has risen to
4.5% - the highest level in three years. Sadly, redundancies are a sign of the
times.
Redundancy
consultations need to follow fair procedure. If English is not the employee’s
first language, it would be advisable to commission an interpreter to assist
with the communication in such difficult meeting.
To adhere to the government guidelines, employers want to limit the number of people visiting their premises to bare minimum.
As
a specialist language service provider, I now offer remote interpreting. I
can assist in redundancy meetings, as well as grievances, disciplinaries and
any other staff meetings via an online platform, such as zoom, or skype or a
telephone.
The use
of remote technology significantly reduces the cost of interpreting services,
as the travel cost is eliminated. At the same time it increases availability,
as journey time no longer needs to be factored in when booking an appointment.
My
office is fully equipped for remote working. From my experience, the remote
interpreting services are just as efficient and effective as face-to face
appointments, but cheaper.
Please
feel free to contact me agata@thelinguist.co.uk
if I can help you communicate with your Polish staff.
